"Behind Every Man"

The final chapter in our month long study has come upon us today.  I hope you have enjoyed our look into Proverbs this month and have gained strength by reading and reflecting on these "words of wisdom."  It has been a blessing to share this time with you.  I encourage you to continue your studies.  Challenge yourself to read one chapter a day - from any book - and spend a few minutes each morning with the Lord.  I promise that you will see the world differently when you put on Christ each morning.

To conclude our study, we come full circle.  Behind every successful man stands a good woman.  How many of you feel that your wife is an important and equal partner with you in life?  The woman described in Proverbs 31 is more than an excellent wife and mother; she is also a manufacturer, importer, manager, realtor, farmer, seamstress, upholsterer, and merchant.  Her worth is "more than rubies" (v 10) and her noble character is a crown to her husband. (12:4)  What a woman!

What is the secret of this good wife's hard work, business intuitiveness, reliability, kindness and overall wisdom?  According to verse 30, it is that she "fears the Lord."  Wow!  There's that phrase again.  Remember way back in chapter 1, what was the beginning of knowledge?  The fear of the Lord.  Remember our mention of Solomon's conclusion of the whole matter of life in Ecclesiastes?  What was it?  The fear of the Lord.  And now we see a picture of a woman who possesses all the God-given traits of wisdom that we as men would hope to have in our life and it was because she feared the Lord.

Guys, as I mentioned at the start of our study, how sad if we possess all the secular knowledge of business, education and relationships, but miss the most fundamental truth of our life - a recognition that He is Lord and we are His.   Our success in life begins and ends by putting God first in all things.  Your marriage.  Your business.  Your speech.  Your behavior.  Your actions.  Your thoughts.  Your worries.  Your hopes and your dreams.  Consult Him first each day, each time.

I pray blessings on you and your family and trust that if you ask, God will give you the insight and wisdom you seek in order to become spiritually "joy-full."  God bless you all!

Sincerely,

Jake Harless
